A genuine interest in people has accompanied me through life. Observing and learning from others has helped me a lot.
Music, literature and art can convey and preserve emotions and experiences that might otherwise escape.
My upbringing in Sweden has given me access to solitary nature experiences and living in
Switzerland has given me access to various local cultural uniqueness in Europe.
My professional life as a business leader has provided endless opportunities to travel and work with people in Asia, South/North America and Europe. It has opened doors to other music and art orientation. I admire Asian art and an avid collector of Japanese calligraphy and silk embroidery.
Traveling and meeting people in different cultures makes us humble and we can better understand ourselves.
Like many others, I have always had an inherent desire not only to admire art but also to create or convey emotions with art.
After my retirement, I went through an intensive apprenticeship in my brother Lennar Sand art studio. He taught me all about linen canvases, color management and composition. Lennart, an experienced and appreciated nature painter, has an incredible understanding of abstract art. For a long time I occupied his time and his art studio, which made his own art practice impossible.
Over time, I have established my own painting studio in Buochs Switzerland, Sun Valley ID USA and Stava Ödeshög Sweden. My painting differs depending on where I am. The light and the surroundings influence me so that the colour and composition of the images turn out different.
I am inspired by nature and cultural experiences. I can be inspired by other artists but I have never tried to copy or imitate other artists. I never try to directly depict or reproduce nature but can be inspired by colour and shapes.
Most of my paintings have no title and I do not try to guide or steer the viewer. However, I have on a couple of occasions given the painting a name or title.
I left my studio in Buoch's Switzerland for a short errand. When I returned, an elderly lady was looking at the large painting I had for display in the gallery window facing the street. "Are you the artist of this painting?" she asks. "Yes, I am guilty", I answer evasively. "I don't understand abstract art. But excuse me. Isn't that a painting of the Vierwaldstättersee?" the lady asks. "It wasn't meant to be" I reply. “ Well you see. Here the village Buochs, there is Beckenried and Lucerne and there is..." I followed her reasoning and began to see the shape of the Lake Lucern with surrounding mountains and
valleys. "Hmm interesting" She interrupts me and humbly says "You must forgive me... I don't
understand any abstract art, but in this painting I think I see the beautiful Vierwaltstättersee or Lake Luzern as foreigners calls it" She excuse herself and hurries on. I stand for a moment and look at the painting with a humble gratitude to the older lady and a feeling of happiness that my painting has given another person an experience or an association of something she appreciate. The painting will be exhibited in Switzerland in 2024 under the name "Vierwaldstättersee".
